7digital in Barcelona: Mobile World Congress & Heroes of the Mobile FringePosted by Caroline Leeming on February 22nd, 2013 – 1 Comment
Next week we take to Spain for a number of events vital to every mobile enthusiast’s calendar (or at least we think so). The first of which is the Mobile World Congress, which, after last year’s record-breaking turn-out with over 67, 000 attendees and nigh-on 1500 exhibitors, we hope will fuel the fire of mobile inspiration ever more. Kick-starting on the 25th and running through to the 28th February, it remains to be seen how the new venue will be received as they have relocated from their old stomping grounds for a new site in Barcelona, a huge state-of-the-art space Fira Gran Via.
This year will open up a the motion of a ‘New Mobile Horizon’, and highlight the impact of mobile on individuals and businesses – in developed and developing markets – across a range of industries. Indeed this concept of a ‘new horizon’ is something we have seen reflected in the exponential increase in mobile download sales over the last 12 months and, more importantly, in the success of our partnering with BlackBerry to motor their official BlackBerry 10 music store.
Furthermore, the precipice on which mobile technology currently rests is a concept that begs the question ‘how can we integrate our business with mobile?’. Both MWC and Heroes of the Mobile Fringe go far in proving that no longer are we ‘accommodating’ for mobile, but rather heralding its fundamentality to our everyday lives as something incredibly exciting.
And so, the aforementioned Heroes of the Mobile Fringe is an event we are very excited to be involved with this year. It runs parallel to (and continues after) the MWC at numerous venues across the city and our VP of Strategic Partnerships, Alyssa Poling, will be representing us at the GILD International on Wednesday 27th February. The talk will be centred around the topic of ‘Where next for mobile music?’, opening up the floor to discuss the challenges and issues with being in mobile music in the current technological and economical climate. Doors open at midday for a prompt 12:15pm start so get down early to get a seat and we hope to see you down there.
That’s not all, we have our Business Development Manager Izabela Rekowska and our Commercial Director Stephen Somerville speaking at the Mobile Brand Masterclass on 26th February and that evening we will be attending the Mobile Marketing Mixer knees-up taking place at the spectacular Cerveceria Moritz, a venue transformed from the old Moritz beer factory into one of the city’s quirkiest buildings.
